Awesome news for those who either plan on visiting or live on and around
beautiful Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia. Downtown Moneta and it's new
neighborhood developments will by no means be yet another one one of those
so-called, traditional community developments we commonly see today.
Rather it's downtown look and feel as well as the surroundings homes are
founded on a small town feel with a refreshing twist, all of which
are being built from the ground up. And only a tenth of a mile from
where "What About Bob?" was filmed! As the movie was
filmed right here on Smith Mountain Lake.
The over all environment
of the new downtown Moneta, especially it's neighborhoods (soon to be
built) are based on the reminiscent look and feel of the imaginary town of
Mayberry RFD, from the original hit television series featuring Andy
Griffith, as the town sheriff.
The first residential neighborhood slated for construction (Mayberry
Hills, now with many homes completed) will be located behind the Moneta's Smith Mountain Lake Library and
will extend all the way to Altice Road. And yes, the design and
layout of the neighborhood will be based on, The Andy Griffith Show of
Mayberry RFD, with the same kind of front porches, sidewalks with
beautiful landscaping, and streetlights to match.
And unlike all other commercial development at the lake, Downtown Moneta
will be six-city blocks of classic brick and stone and seamed metal roofing, ultimately
offering shoppers in all inclusive destination. Let's hope they remember
to put an a nice cozy (two floor) inn for those weary travelers and
summertime visitors to the lake!
The Downtown Moneta city streets will have brick structures with standing
seam metal roofing, attractive landscaping, sidewalks, and streetlights,
which will be similar to the Moneta Smith Mountain Lake Library. We will
have a mixture of retail, restaurant, and office tenants within the
project. Directly across the street from Downtown Moneta (behind the Smith
Mountain Lake Library) will be a residential community called Mayberry Hills.
