  Do to heavy rains this summer the Ponderosa Campground has again suffered heavy damage from trees and driftwood completely clogging the campgrounds water cove.

  Understand that Smith Mountain Lake has over 500 miles of shoreline and the Ponderosa campground is way up river towards the far end of the lake, far  away from the dam and the main body of the lake of which has always been clear of such concerns. 

Note: Many of you have starting asking us about the cleanliness of restrooms at different campsites, we simply do not know. However, this is a very important question. So, a rating system on a campgrounds cleanliness is being implemented here pronto. Know this will take some time to gather such data as I should go there in person and see for myself what the status is. My visits to these campgrounds will include me taking photos for you so as you will have a better sense as to what campgrounds to avoid.
