What Secret?
Located
on the east coast of the United States is Smith Mountain Lake, the largest, cleanest body of fresh
water east of the Mississippi. A little known area in Virginia that is
nestled in the heartland of the Appalachian - Blue Ridge Mountains
with over a half a thousand miles of scenic
shoreline and is home to the fifty-three pound striper! The
region has become the second fastest growing area on the east coast and the
motion picture "What About Bob" was filmed here.

Mr. Roney,
We met at a Ribbon
cutting Ceremony. But, I saw your
photography on the Internet the year before
we chose to move here.
The pictures you put on the Internet for
Smith Mountain Lake just blew us away. We
were living in the most beautiful place in
the country, Summit County Colorado among
the best ski resorts in the country, Vail,
Copper Mountain, Keystone, Breckenridge and
Arapahoe. So due to the altitude and our
health we had to move to a lower altitude.
We researched many places and settled right
here. Your photography grabbed us
like a fish on a hook. We spent a
week traveling from Georgia to West Virginia
and still came back to this spot. We are
now planting roots.
Thanks for your beautiful
pictures.

We moved here last July
from Long Beach, California. We settled in Moneta and are loving it. We
have family still back in Long Beach who came across this website and told
us about it and we are sharing it with all our family and friends back
there; already it (your website) has one brother and family ready to come
back and settle here and hope it brings many others. Thanks again. - Rock
and Eleanore Bradbury
Our Posted Response:
Hi Rock and Eleanore! - Thank
your for your heartfelt letter. It's so rewarding to know how our hard
work continues to help others in ways that we did not fully realize over a
half-a-decade ago. If you can think of anything major that is missing at
VirginiasBestKeptSecret.com,
please do not hesitate to let us know. I think we should add a new section
called, COMMUNITY DIRECTORY, of where you could find information on area
libraries, post offices and emergency numbers. Well...
Wishing you the very best that life and family has to offer.
Cordially yours,
James Roney
Hi James, My name is Jessica Ross and I am the Executive Producer here at
News channel 10. I wanted to say the shots you always send us are
absolutely breathtaking. It was great to be able to show the storm
rolling in at Smith Mountain Lake last week. I was looking into
getting a print of the lake framed for Christmas. I thought you should
be my first stop since I’ve already seen how great your work is!
Jessica A. Ross, Executive Producer - WSLS News channel 10
Our Posted Response:
Hi Jessica, I'm glad that you've enjoyed the photos, but the real credit
goes to mother nature. Yes that storm photo was quite revealing all
while I question my safety in taking those shots as lightning was
starting to crash all around at an alarming rate, all the while the
shutter bug in me kept on clicking. Recently we posted over one-hundred
signature photos on line which can now be found in our
main photo
gallery.
I enjoyed visiting your
website while searching for a spot of land to purchase on Smith Mountain
Lake. I also enjoyed the background music on your website and wondering
if you can provide information as to the name of the CD used on your website.
Thanks, Don Shetka, California.
Our Posted Response:
Hi Don, no CD was used, rather it's MIDI music, which means that the
website triggers instrument sounds that are already inside your
computer. The origin of the compositions are a host of many
artist. Some are originals, while others are renditions of existing
pieces of which I no longer remember, and should I remember, I will
post it here. - VBKS
"Thanks for providing us the West Lake information, we really got a lot of
good info thanks to your site and we are even buying a house at Smith
Mountain Lake as a result. Thanks!" Joshua Gabrielson, Rocky Mount,
Virginia.
"Wow, what a wonderful site. I have visited many websites about Smith
Mountain Lake in recent years and found them all to be self
serving real-estate sites, all of which gave me no real sense of the
lake. When I came across your site I was blown away by all your beautiful
pictures and not to mention your (to the point information) your site
offers. You gave me a nice feel for the lake that all the other websites
combined never gave me. Gratefully yours!" Elizabeth Arden, Roanoke,
Virginia.
"To say that all your information and especially your nice picture galleries
were not a real treat would be anything less than honest. But what I found
to be the best part about your site was that I never got lost despite its
size as I could always find my way back to any of your pages in a snap! Now
that's what I call a smart site. My husband and I are now all excited about
visiting the lake with our children in the spring. Thanks a million!" Mary
K. Blankenship, Washington DC
"Every so often I come back to visit your lovely website to get more of your
truly beautiful pictures for my computer. The reason I'm writing you is
because I work at (location withheld) where there are hundreds of computers
on anyone of the seven floors we occupy. Well about two years ago, a few
of my coworkers and I started using your photos for wallpaper to cheer up
our computer screens. Last year I got a promotion, one that required me to
help oversee personnel on all seven floors! Much to my amazement, I cannot
tell how many times that I have run into computers here that at one time or
another had one of your scenic pictures on it. So my staff and I just wanted
to take this moment to say, thank you, for all of your wonderful pictures.
We look forward to the continued growth of your photo galleries! " Robin
Davis, Assistant Administrator, Reston VA.
